San Ysidro is about a square mile region of San Diego, that sits directly above the border stop between the United States and Mexico. I don’t think anyone famous came from here… the most notable thing that happened in the region’s history was that a guy went nuts in 1984 and killed 21 people at a McDonald’s. They tore that down so I think the most noteworthy place is now the outlet mall which is just a few blocks west of the border crossing. It’s called Las Americas Premium outlets. The Yelp reviews seem generally positive although there seems to be a lot of xenophobic comments about some of the clientele considering it’s located about a football field’s length from the border.
